turmeric health benefits

Despite being one of the most effective nutritional supplements known to man, turmeric is not widely known to have healing properties. Turmeric is the spice that gives curry its yellow color. It has been used in India for thousands of years as a spice and medicinal herb. What’s even more amazing, is that most of the research has scientifically-based evidence to support findings. So looking up turmeric on the internet may provide you with some helpful information about this supplement.

Since lately, science began to pick up what the Indians have known for a long time, and that is the fact that it does contain compounds with medicinal properties. Turmeric contains curcumin, which is a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Most studies used turmeric extracts that are standardized to include substantial amounts of curcumin.

Here are some of the wonders turmeric can do.

Help To Prevent (And Perhaps Even Treat) Cancer

Cancer is a terrible disease characterized by the uncontrolable growth of particular cells. Of all the diverse topics scientists have tackled regarding the curcumin and disease reversal, cancer is one of those that have been thoroughly researched. According to global authorities like Cancer Research UK, several laboratory studies on cancer cells have shown that curcumin does have anti-cancerous effects. It seems to be able to kill cancer cells and prevent them from reproducing. It has the best effects on breast, bowel, stomach and skin cancer cells.

Proper Management of Arthritis

Arthritis is a form of joint disorder that involves inflammation, and it is a common disease in the Western world. Curcumin is known for its powerful anti-inflammatory and pain reducing characteristics, a study was conducted on 45 rheumatoid arthritis patients to compare the benefits of curcumin in turmeric to arthritis drugs (diclofenac sodium), that put people at risk of developing leaky gut and heart disease.

The results of the trial were eye-opening:

The curcumin group showed the highest percentage of improvement in overall [Disease Activity Score] scores and these scores were significantly better than those of the patients in the diclofenac sodium group. More importantly, curcumin treatment was deemed safe and did not have any adverse events. Our study provides the first evidence for the safety and superiority of curcumin treatment in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis, and highlights the need for future large-scale trials, in an attempt to validate these findings in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and other arthritic conditions.

Turmeric Cures and Prevents Alzheimer’s Disease

The anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric are part of the reason it gained such a high standing in the traditional Eastern systems of medicine. In fact, there is mounting clinical evidence that turmeric protects the brain from the onset as well as the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. It also improves the flow of oxygen and removes plaque buildup in the brain. It also has the ability to protect us against the onslaught of neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s and reverse the damage done by those diseases by de-growing brain cells.
